Lowland Search Technician

This course is designed to give the participant the theoretical knowledge and skills needed by a team member during a lowland search. This is the introductory course in lowland search, and does not assume any previous knowledge of lowland search.
The course follows the current ALSAR syllabus, and is delivered and assessed by operational members of several ALSAR Teams.
The course starts at 1900hrs Friday evening and finishes around 1600hrs Sunday afternoon. The syllabus includes:
- Searcher Preparedness
- The Callout
- Search Techniques
- Preservation of Evidence
- Misper Behaviour
- Search Management
The course is delivered by experienced instructors, who are all operational members of ALSAR teams. We know our training works because our delegates tell us that it equips them for the job when they attend live searches.
The course is assessed in two ways. Throughout the course participants will be observed and assessed on their performance. On the Sunday participants will sit a short multiple-choice test. Only on successful completion of these two elements will participants be certificated. This certificate lasts three years.
